Dr Eunice Otuko Apio wins the Janzi Award for new book


Many congratulations to Dr Eunice Otuko Apio for winning a Janzi Award for Outsanding Book for her novel Zura Maids!


The Janzi Awards celebrate Uganda's Cultural, Creative and Performing Arts. They highlight the wide variety of achievements in this sector and the crucial contribution of creatives in promoting social unity and the diversity of Uganda's culture and talent. These awards aim to encourage further investment in the arts and innovative fields and produce new opportunities for the growth of these creative trades to strengthen the industry.


Zura Maids delves into the realities of human trafficking. It follows the moving story of Lena Ayugi, a young woman ensnared by traffickers, who then finds herself in prison. After two years, Lena is released and seeks out the family in northern Uganda from whom she was separated. However, she soon realises that the traffickers now have someone else - her sister.
