ESR contributes to academic paper after fruitful secondment

ESR Sophie Roupetz traveled to Lebanon in 2016 for a secondment, in which she supported the research project “Making Sense of Child Marriage Among Syrian Refugees”, alongside CHIBOW partner Susan Bartels.

As a result of this secondment Sophie collaborated on an academic paper published in BMJ, a leading medical journal, entitled "Making sense of child, early and forced marriage among Syrian refugee girls: a mixed methods study in Lebanon."

The paper presents new findings on why Syrian girls in Lebanon chose early marriage, and how narrative interpretation differs between male and female respondents, thus influencing their identification with underlying factors that contribute to early marriage.
