CHIBOW researcher meets representative of the Institute of National Remembrance

Early Stage Researcher Lisa Haberkern, member of the European Union’s Marie Curie Initial Training Network “Children born of war – past, present and future project,” met with a representative of the Katowice branch of the Institute of National Remembrance– Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation (IPN). During the visit, Lisa was introduced to the archival material and structure of the Institute, to plan further research. For Lisa’s research on volksdeutsch-polish children in Upper Silesia in the postwar period the resources of the IPN, particularly the archival material documenting the situation in postwar work camps, will play an important role.

Founded in 1998, the IPN serves in several functions: It is part of the state and justice administration, an archive, a place of academic research as well as a center for education. Next to its headquarter in Warsaw the IPN consists of eleven branch offices, amongst them the one in Katowice, and another seven delegation offices.
